Case Study: TheComedyDoctors.com

Project: TheComedyDoctors.com
Raison d’etre: Online Comedy Videos & Social Networking for Comedians
Our Guilty Pleasures: SEO and 50% mastermind
Captain’s Log: 2008

TheComedyDoctors.com was borne from the notion that there was really no specialized site catering to comedians to showcase their work online. Nor was there anything to provide them with the opportunity to network more directly with comedy clubs or interact with their online followers, all under one site.

Sites like MySpace and Youtube, whilst catering to this sector in some respects, follow a very generalized theme that is not conducive to a proper interaction with this kind of user. The structure of a MySpace web page is often cluttered, and far more weight is given to who is following a particular artist, than the artist’s actual key content.

Laughter is the Best Medicine…

TheComedyDoctors.com has two main characters that act as ambassadors to new visitors & members of the site. Dr Hugo & Alter Hugo offer that Tim Burton-esque twisted vision of comedy. If a member gets stuck navigating the site, either character will offer their humorous injection of help. Or just offer a concerning stare for humorous dramatic effect.

Artists can post their online comedy videos directly onto TheComedyDoctors.com, send bulletins, write articles in their own blogs, and reach out to a more targeted audience. Likewise, comedy clubs and venues can publish their information online so that both the public and comedians may develop relationships with them, in order to build their repertoire and experience.

The site has already attracted loyal collaborations from renowned comic and producer Lisa Sundstet, and her Pretty Funny Women shows.

TheComedyDoctors.com aims to become the online platform through which comedians will present their work to an online audience, and become the focal point of that target audience to find new comedy online. The site design is scheduled to be overhauled in Spring of 2010 in order to upgrade the user experience.
